389 Inspection Report/ Repairs
It was noted that Councillor Bennett had carried out an inspection to follow up on the Lancaster City Council’s (Lancaster CC) inspection of 10th June – this had listed some issues of concern and Councillor Bennett identified more. RESOLVED to take the following action:
1. wooden log train – Mr Stefan Laws be asked to remove the rotten wood, fill using an Epoxy wood filler and sand smooth. Mr Laws to estimate the cost of the filler for which the parish council will recompense him if it costs more than the tender budget allows;
2. large multi-unit (climbing wall and steps) – Mr Laws be asked to trim the rotten lower edge of the side board with climbing holds and move the brackets up;
3. wood chips to aerial slide – Mr Laws be asked to rake the wood chips when they are dry as they are very compacted;
4. trip point at entrance to cradle swings – Mr Laws be asked to cut and lift the turf at the low spots, spread additional soil where the turf has been lifted and re-lay the turf;
5. surfacing around spring mobiles – Councillor Bennett to ask the Lancaster CC Inspector why this is considered inadequate and which standards are being contravened as the surface complied with standards at the time of installation;
6. rubber wet pour – obtain a quotation for repairs to the wet pour which has shrunk and is lifting around the edges in several places;
7. flat swings – obtain details of the recommended seat height from Lancaster CC and obtain a quotation from a suitable engineering workshop (or garage) for reworking the swing links;
8. trim trail – continue to monitor the condition as no structural issue has been identified and there are no other hazards at present;
9. gate at entrance to playground – investigate whether a repair is feasible so that the gate automatically closes or add an alternative closing mechanism;
10. gate on perimeter of junior activity zone – order a replacement return spring in the gate closing mechanism from Playdale to be fitted by Mr Laws if possible;
It was noted that:
1. Mr Laws has secured the surround to the aerial slide as it was becoming loose;
2. the Clerk has asked Envirocare to trim back the hedges at the entrance to the playground (Councillor Bennett had found that they are causing sightline problems).
