Children’s Playground – traffic
There seems to be general agreement that the playground is a marvellous asset to our village, but it has created a problem that we had not anticipated, at least on such a scale.
Although it was created primarily for the children of Silverdale, we love to see children from other areas enjoying the new facilities. Inevitably they come by car, and these cars must be parked somewhere. We even heard of some enterprising parents who recently hired a coach to visit the playground!
Our roads are just not wide enough to cope with this dramatic increase in parked vehicles and we have discovered that a hazard has been made worse, as a consequence. There is a bend in Cove Road, near to the junction with Elmslack Court. If vehicles are parked near to this point, it means that those travelling from the Arnside direction have to cross to the wrong side of the road (and take a chance). This has long been recognised as a hazard, but it has been made worse with the influx of cars for the new playground. It has also increased the problem for drivers wishing to exit from Elmslack Court.
If you must travel by car, please try to avoid parking near this spot.
New Parish Councillor
June Greenwell has found it necessary to resign from the Council, in order to devote more time to her other duties. She has been a very valuable Member of the Council, and was largely responsible for managing the Playground Project (from the Council’s point of view). Her contributions will be sadly missed.
In place of June, we are delighted to welcome Susan Fletcher. We will expect big things of Sue, but we’ll let her settle in first.
