427 Inspection Report/ Repairs
1. Wooden log train – it was noted that, unfortunately, the log train is not covered by Playdale’s warranty as it was not manufactured by them. The rotting areas of wood have been cut out, filled and sanded smooth. No further action required at present. RESOLVED to monitor its condition at future inspections.
2. Surfacing (i) it was noted that rotavating the wood chips to the aerial slide has worked. RESOLVED to ask Mr Stefan Laws to regularly ‘flick’ the wood chips to bulk them up, particularly at the start and finish of the run; (ii) it was noted that the rubber wet pour has been repaired. The trip points by the junior swings have been dealt with by lifting the turf. New rubber matting has been added around the junior springies.
3. Aerial slide – RESOLVED to ask the Lancaster City Council (Lancaster CC) Inspector if he checks the top of the aerial slide for disrepair/ rot when he visits; further RESOLVED to obtain a quotation for filling the runway for the aerial slide and turfing the area and to ask Lancaster CC the cost of them supplying and fitting rubber matting (as an alternative surface (to wood chips) for the runway in the long-term).
4. Gate at entrance to playground – Councillor Bennett reported that Mr Paul Holgate intends re-working the gate so that it is RoSPA compliant and putting a temporary wooden gate in place whist this is done. RESOLVED that Councillor Bennett check the following with Mr Holgate: (1) the specification for the gate; (2) the cost of carrying out the work; (3) the timescale for replacing the gate with new mechanism (before the end of January).
5. RESOLVED to work out a plan for replacing pieces of playground equipment over a period of years.
428 Bank Account
RESOLVED to set up a standing order to pay £25 a month into the playground account from the Silverdale Parish Council account and to seek advice about the best way forward.
